Tournament to be held March 19-23 in Daytona Beach, Florida

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – For the first time since 2018, UNC Asheville men's basketball will be competing in a postseason tournament, as the program accepted its bid to the 2022 College Basketball Invitational tournament (CBI).

The tournament will be held from March 19-23 at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The CBI, which has been around since 2008, is a 16-team single-elimination tournament, with the full field and bracket being announced March 13.

"We are extremely excited to be continuing our 2021-22 season in the CBI and competing against some of the nation's best teams," head coach Mike Morrell said. "Our Big South tournament didn't end how we would've liked and our team is thrilled to get another chance to compete together in Daytona Beach, Florida. I'm very grateful to AD (Janet) Cone and our leadership for giving us this opportunity in the postseason."

Asheville finished the regular season with a 16-13 record, going 8-8 in conference play before falling at the buzzer to Charleston Southern (79-78) in the opening round of the Big South Tournament.

The last time the Bulldogs were in a postseason tournament was its appearance in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in which they fell at Southern California in double overtime.
