Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at No. 7 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team dropped its road contest at No. 7 Virginia Tech on Sunday (Dec. 11) by a score of 86-48.
The Bulldogs hung through the early part of the first quarter, staAshying within five at the first media timeout. The Bulldogs defense held the Hokies to just four points in the final two-plus minutes of the quarter as Virginia Tech led 17-8 after one period.
The Hokies went on an early run to pull away in the second quarter, taking a 41-19 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs scored 15 points in the third quarter, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Jamaya Blanks and one from Jordaynia Ivie.
The Bulldogs battled through the fourth quarter until the final horn sounded.
Ivie led the Bulldogs with 16 points in the game, while McKinley Brooks-Sumpter also had 11. Blanks posted a career-high nine points in the game, while Mallory Bruce added five. Faith Adams added three points, while Jamia Blake and Nycerra Minnis each had two. Brooks-Sumpter led the rebound effort with seven, while Blanks and Blake each had four and Bruce, Minnis and Brown each had three with Brown notching a new career-high. Dakota McCaughan dished out a team-high four assists in the game, while Ivie contributed three and Adams also had one. Ivie led the way with three steals in the game, while McCaughan had two and Blake had one. Brooks-Sumpter and Ivie each recorded blocks in the contest for Asheville.
 The Bulldogs (4-4) return home to Kimmel Arena on Saturday (Dec. 17) to face East Tennessee State in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. from Kimmel Arena.
