Women's Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Contest to Chattanooga

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought contest to Chattanooga on Wednesday (Nov. 23) by a score of 60-48.
The teams battled through a low-scoring first quarter, with Chattanooga leading 13-7 after 10 minutes.
The second quarter began similar to the first, with both teams on the low end of scoring. A late Chattanooga run would put the Mocs up 26-16 at the half.
Asheville had a strong rally in the third quarter, out-scoring Chattanooga 24-17 in the frame. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead in the final five minutes, trimming it down from 10 to just three. In the final 4:51 of the third, the Bulldogs used a 14-7 run capped off by a Mallory Bruce three-pointer at the horn to bring the game to the fourth quarter with Chattanooga leading 43-40.
The teams went back and forth in the early goings of the fourth quarter, before the Mocs were able to pull away in the later stages.
McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (14 points) and Bruce (11 points) finished in double figures for the Bulldogs, while Jordaynia Ivie and Dakota McCaughan each had eight points in the game. Nycerra Minnis finished with three points, while Faith Adams and Jamaya Blanks each had two. Brooks-Sumpter also led the way with nine rebounds in the game, while Bruce had four and Ivie and Minnis had three each. Three other Bulldogs each pulled down two rebounds in the game, while two others registered one each. Brooks-Sumpter helped on three Bulldog buckets in the game, while Adams recorded two helpers and Ivie and Jada Brigman each had one. Brooks-Sumpter, Abigail Wilson and McCaughan each had one steal in the game, while Wilson also posted Asheville's lone block in the game.
The Bulldogs (2-2) return to the floor on Monday (Nov. 28) to host Western Carolina for the Blue Out Game. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. from Kimmel Arena.
