BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Wednesday that the UNC Asheville women's basketball team has been picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Poll. Furthermore, sophomore guard Jordaynia Ivie was named to the Preseason All-Big South Second Team.
High Point and Gardner-Webb were deadlocked atop the Preseason Poll with 92 points each with Campbell right behind them with 86 points. Radford was picked fourth with 55 points followed by Asheville (52 points) and Longwood (51 points). Presbyterian (42 points), USC Upstate (29 points), Winthrop (28 points), and Charleston Southern (23 points) rounded out the poll. The fifth-place prediction for Asheville marks its highest preseason pick since 2019-20 when it was picked to place third in the league standings.
In her first season as a Bulldog, Ivie made an immediate impact playing in 30 of the team's 32 games. Ivie, who started 29 games as a freshman, led all Bulldog newcomers in minutes played (860), field goals made (84), field goal percentage (40.6), 3-pointers made (28), 3-point field goal percentage (31.1), points scored (226), rebounds (99), assists (53), and steals (54). Furthermore, Ivie led the way for the entire team in 3-point shooting percentage (31.1) and steals (54). Ivie's best performance as a freshman came in the opening round of the Big South Tournament where she netted a season-high 20 points to help the 11th-seeded Bulldogs knock off North Carolina A&T.
Ivie also showed improvement over the course of the season scoring 10 or more points 11 times once the calendar turned to 2022 after notching just one double-figure scoring outing in the 2021 portion of the schedule. Entering 2022-23, Ivie ranks second in 3-point percentage, third in steals and seventh in steals among returning players.
The Bulldogs will open their 2022-23 season on November 7 when they host Converse inside Kimmel Arena. A reminder that single game and season tickets are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased by visiting uncabulldogs.com/tickets or by calling 828-258-7900.
