BIG SOUTH RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Big South Conference announced its annual Preseason Baseball Coaches' Poll on Thursday, and the UNC Asheville baseball team was picked to finish ninth with a total of 38 points.

Campbell, the league's runner-up a season ago, was selected as the league favorite by the coaches tallying 116 points and eight of the 11 first-place votes. USC Upstate was not too far behind the Camels with 100 points and one first-place nod. Radford (86 points), Presbyterian (84 points), Gardner-Webb (82 points) were next up with not a ton of separation in the point totals.

Despite being picked sixth and seventh, Winthrop (72 points) and Charleston Southern (51 points) each picked up a first-place vote. High Point (41 points), Asheville (38 points), North Carolina A&T (31 points), and Longwood (25 points) rounded out the poll.

In addition to being picked to win the conference, Campbell had both the Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year. Zach Neto (Player) and Thomas Harrington (Pitcher) were the Camels that received these honors after stellar 2021 campaigns.

The 2022 Bulldog baseball season, presented by Ingles, is scheduled to get underway February 18-20 when the Bulldogs visit Virginia Tech for a three-game series. For Asheville's complete 2022 schedule, click HERE.
