CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Highlighted by a 41-point, 11-rebound effort in a win at Radford, UNC Asheville's Drew Pember has been named the Big South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.
Pember continued his stellar season this past week, averaging 30.5 points in two games, including his career-high 41-point effort in a win at Radford. On Wednesday, Pember scored 20 points to go with five rebounds and three blocks, registering his fourth consecutive game in which he scored at least 20 points. Pember added two steals while going 10-for-11 from the free throw line and 4-of-6 from the field (2-for-2 from 3-point range).
On Saturday, Pember had perhaps the biggest individual output in the Big South this season, scoring 41 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to power the Bulldogs to an overtime win at Radford. Registering the second double-double of his career, Pember became just the 8th Bulldog to score 40+ points, and was just three points shy of the program record (44 points). Blocking two shots and dishing out two assists, Pember's effort lifted Asheville to its first victory at Radford since December 31, 2014 (62-60). Ranking fourth in the country in blocks (69) and fifth in blocks per game (3.63), Pember leads the Big South in scoring with 24.0 points per game in conference play, knocking down a league-best 47 free throws and 43 field goals.
This marks the third player of the week award for Pember since December 13. To read the Big South's release, click here.
