Bulldogs post 3.293 GPA for Fall Semester

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – The UNC Asheville student-athletes wrapped up the fall semester strongly, posting a GPA of 3.293 as a unit. The 3.293 mark is the highest for the student-athletes in the last three semesters.

Overall, 254 student-athletes were enrolled for the Fall semester, with 183 Bulldogs (72 percent) earning Athletic Honor Roll Recipient status after completing the semester with at least a 3.0 GPA. A total of 85 student-athletes garnered Dean's List recognition (GPAs between 3.50-3.99), which is also the highest in the last three semesters. Additionally, 31 Bulldogs were named to the Chancellor's List with perfect GPAs of 4.0.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for their excellent performances in the classroom" stated Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "Our Bulldogs continue to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 challenges successfully academically and athletically.  They are resilient "Champions and Leaders."

All in all, 13 of UNC Asheville's programs earned a team GPA of 3.1 or higher this past fall. Women's volleyball led the way with a team GPA of 3.612, while men's tennis checked in with 3.546 GPA, the highest among male teams at the University.

India Appleton (Women's Cross Country), Nathaniel Edwards (Men's Cross Country), Leon Musial (Men's Soccer), Courtney O'Malley (Women's Soccer) and Grace Volk (Volleyball) were named to the Big South All-Academic teams for their respective sports, with Volk claiming her second consecutive Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Additionally, Volk was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Five Bulldogs graduated with their degrees in December with an impressive 3.863 combined GPA.

"I never ceased to be impressed by the time management skills our student-athletes demonstrate as they balance the demands of NCAA DI sports with their commitment to excelling in the classroom," said Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Success Rebecca Nelms. "It is yet another demonstration of their commitment to bring their best effort to all of their endeavors."
