Swimming & Diving opens home schedule vs. ECU on Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming and diving team will open its home schedule on Friday as they host ECU. The diving portion of the dual meet will take place at the Jewish Community Center in Asheville at 4 p.m., while the swimming portion will be held at the Justice Center Pool at 5 p.m.
Quick Look Back at 2020-21 – During a season unlike any other, the Bulldogs took another sizable step forward as a program in 2020-21. Asheville posted a 4-1-1 record during the dual meet season, which was its best in program history. At the CCSA Championships, the Bulldogs placed fourth for the second straight season. They logged an impressive seven podium finishes that established a new program-best mark at the league's showcase event. After the season, Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins was named the CCSA Coach of the Year for the third straight year and fourth time overall.
Outlook on the 2021-22 Bulldogs – Asheville will have a ton of experience returning to the pool in 2021-22, including 18 upperclassmen and eight sophomores. In addition to the veterans, the Bulldogs added six freshmen to the squad too.
Note from Coach – "We are excited to kick off the 2021-22 season with a home competition," said Lykins. "UNC Asheville Swim & Dive has never competed against East Carolina, and we look forward to hosting their strong squad. Our freshmen are ready to experience their first collegiate dual meet, and the upperclassmen are hungry to compete at home again."
About ECU – The Pirate program is back for the 2021-22 season after being briefly discontinued from May 2020-December 2020. ECU will be led by Head Coach Matthew Jabs, who led the Pirates from 2017-20. Jabs, who posted a record of 19-9 in dual meets in those three seasons, also served a lengthy stint as an assistant coach for ECU.
Attendance Policy – Admission is only available to individuals on the respective teams' pre-approved pass list.
