Cross Country set to Compete at Firetower Project Meet

Cross Country to travel back to Appalachian State for the Firetower Project Meet
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Cross Country will head back to Boone on Friday, September 17, with a trip to the Firetower Project Meet, hosted by Appalachian State. The women will start first at 4:45 p.m., followed by the men who begin shortly after the women finish.
The event is smaller than the Covered Bridge Open, and teams include UNC Wilmington, Elon, USC Upstate, College of Charleston, Lees-McRae, and Montreat College. Both the Appalachian State teams cracked the Top 15 in the Southeast Regional rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while the Elon women reached the Top 10.
Last Time Out: Covered Bridge Open
Senior Clara Wincheski led the women's team breaking the program's 5k record with a time of 17:41.31, which earned her Big South Runner of the Week. Senior India Appleton also logged a personal best time of 18:21.19.
Senior John Ciprich led the men's team in the 8k race, finishing with a time of 26:21.57, followed closely behind by sophomores Daniel Hopkins and Jax Ledford, who finished with times of 26:58.16 and 27:08.10.
Overall, the men's team finished eighth, while the women finished ninth.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs will have a two-week break before heading off to the Louisville Invitational on October 2, a race in which the men's team finished 27th and the women's team finished 38th in 2019.
