BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Tuesday that the UNC Asheville volleyball team was picked to finish fifth in its annual preseason coaches' poll. Additionally, senior Peyton McClinton landed a spot on the Preseason All-Big South team.
Defending champion High Point topped Tuesday's poll, collecting 10 of the 11 first-place votes for 119 points. Campbell notched the final first-place vote and finished a spot behind the Panthers with 105 points. Meanwhile, Winthrop (94 points) and Charleston Southern (91 points) were not far behind, rounding out the top four teams.
UNC Asheville was up next with 64 points, while North Carolina A&T and USC Upstate totaled 63 and 59 points, respectively. Closing out the poll were Presbyterian (43 points), Radford (39 points), Gardner-Webb (25 points), and Hampton (24 points).
McClinton had a breakout spring season for the Bulldogs on her way to earning All-Big South Second Team honors. The senior from Louisville, Kentucky, paced the Big South in both kills (201) and points scored (227) during the unique spring season. McClinton picked up double-digit kill totals in 10 of the team's 16 matches, including a pair of 20-plus kill performances. One of these outings was a career-high 25 kills vs. Radford on March 11. The 25 kills in that match from McClinton was just one shy of tying the program record for kills in a single match.
Asheville will begin its fall schedule on August 27-28 when it competes in three matches at Davidson. The Bulldogs are scheduled to kick off their home schedule on September 24 when it hosts new Big South member North Carolina A&T at the Justice Center. Admission to this match and all of Asheville's home matches will be free this season.
