ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone announced the promotion of Erin Punter Spence to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance.
"I am thrilled to announce that Erin Spence has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance," stated Janet R. Cone, Director of Athletics. "Erin was one of the very first staff members that I hired when arriving at UNC Asheville in 2004, and she has served our student-athletes, coaches, and staff professionally and unselfishly throughout her time as a Bulldog. She is a very valuable member of our team and is a highly competent and qualified compliance administrator. Congratulations to Erin!"
Stepping on campus in 2004, Spence has filled a variety of roles including: compliance, marketing and branding, corporate relations, student services, working with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and more.
"I want to thank Janet Cone for the opportunity," Spence said. "I am grateful to serve the UNC Asheville student-athletes in this role moving forward as NCAA compliance continues to evolve and modernize."
Additionally, Spence has been active in National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), serving on the Marketing and Communications Committee since 2018. While working in external relations, Spence served on the strategic communications committee of National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), from 2013-2017 and led a session on marketing at Division I non-football schools at the national convention in 2015. Spence also served as a member of the membership committee for Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly known as NACWAA) during the 2015-2016 school year.
