ASHEVILLE, N.C. – April was a highlight-filled month for UNC Asheville Athletics, with some Bulldog teams capping off their respective spring 2021 seasons, while others are were just getting going. With that in mind, we take a look back at the accomplishments by our great student-athletes and their teams from this past month.

Baseball – Brandon Lankford – Sr. Mocksville, N.C.

  • Hit .381 with eight home runs, drove in 18 runs, scored 15 and totaled a team-high 24 hits.
  • Broke the school record for career home runs that stood for over three decades. He now has 48 career home runs.
  • Collected at least one hit in 13 of 16 games and posted multiple hits in eight of those contests. 
Women's Golf – Madyson Gold – Fr. – Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
  • Finished T-14 at the Big South Championship (April 14-17, The Patriot at Grand Harbor)
  • After opening up with two straight 3-over-par 75's, Madyson Gold saved her best round for last, posting a 2-over-par 72 to finish 8-over-par for the tournament. Gold birdied hole No. 1 before closing out the back nine with circles on holes No. 16 and No. 18.
Men's Soccer – Leon Musial – GK - Fr. – Ingolstadt, Germany
  • Helped Asheville reach Big South Semifinal for first time since 2008, first Tournament appearance since 2016
  • Named to Big South All-Freshman Team
  • 16 total saves including a career-high eight against Gardner-Webb
  • Led Big South in total saves (36) and saves per game (4.0) for the season
Women's Soccer – Skyler Chillson – Sr. – Mooreseville, N.C.
  • Scored a hat trick in her final game in a Bulldogs uniform as the Bulldogs defeated Gardner-Webb 4-2
  • Totaled five shots in April, with four being on frame
  • Goal(s) against Gardner-Webb proved to be game-winner
Men's Tennis – Jon Brann Reid – Fr. – Hickory, N.C.
  • 2-0 at No. 3 singles in April
  • Victory at Gardner-Webb helped Bulldogs clinch first ever Big South Regular Season Title
  • Registered lone point of Big South Semifinal with a 6-3, 6-3 win vs. Presbyterian
  • 2021 Big South Freshman of the Year (April 14)
  • All-Big South First Team Singles
  • All-Big South Second Team Doubles
Women's Tennis – Ami Grace Dougah - So. – Lawrenceville, Ga.
  • 1-1 No. 2 singles flight
  • 1-1 in No. 1 doubles April
  • First Team All-Conference Singles
  • First Team All-Conference Doubles with Rosie Dickson
Men's Track & Field – Jalen Anderson – Fr. – Monroe, N.C. 
  • Broke school record in 200-meter dash with a time of 21.40 at the Catamount Classic before winning the event with a time of 21.62 in the finals.
  • Played a part in Asheville's 4x400-meter relay team establish a new record (3:17.68).
  • Overall, landed six podium finishes this month, including three event victories (two relays, one individual event).
Women's Track & Field – Claudia Prieto – Jr. – Madrid, Spain
  • Broke outdoor school record & meet record in long jump (5.93-meters) at Catamount Classic.
  • Finished second in the triple jump at the Catamount Classic as well.
  • Helped the Bulldog 4x100-meter relay team place third at the Catamount Classic and Aggie Classic.
