Track & Field Preps for Final Meet Before Conference Championships

04.23.2021 | Track and Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field programs will travel to Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday to compete in the Aggie Classic on the campus of North Carolina A&T. This meet will be the final one for the Bulldogs prior to the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships in mid-May.

Last Time Out – Asheville competed last weekend at the Catamount Classic and posted some stellar performances. Overall, four school records were broken for the Bulldogs over the course of the two-day meet. Additionally, the women's team placed fourth, and the men's squad finished second in the team standings at the end of the weekend.

Prieto Pushing the Bar Higher
 – Junior Claudia Prieto continues to push the bar higher for herself and the rest of the Bulldogs as she set a new school outdoor record in the long jump with a leap of 5.93-meters. Prieto has now broken or matched a school record in each of the team's four meets this season.

Results in the Relays
 – A strength for Asheville this spring has been its ability to perform well in relay events. Heading into this weekend, the Bulldogs have at least one top five time in the Big South conference in the 4x100m relay and 4x400m for both the men and women.

Note from Coach
 - This will be the deepest competition we will probably see this year," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "Many good teams and student-athletes will be competing, and it's a great facility as well."

Meet Information
 – Saturday's meet will feature over 20 teams across all levels of the NCAA. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the women's long jump and run throughout the day. Live results will be available HERE.
