Women’s basketball Championship reseeded; Asheville to face Longwood Monday

03.05.2021 | Women's Basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced this morning it has reseeded the upcoming Hercules Tires Women's Basketball Championship due to the Radford program not being able to meet the minimum number of available student-athletes, which will prevent the No. 6-seeded Highlanders from competing in the tournament. As a result, UNC Asheville will now play a quarterfinal matchup at Longwood on Monday.

The Bulldogs, who enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, were originally slated to host Charleston Southern on Saturday, but due to Radford's being unavailable to participate, Asheville will now face the third-seeded Lancers.

Although Longwood finished 13-10 overall and 12-6 in conference, Asheville took the season series back in December, winning 79-64 and 68-52 at Kimmel Arena.

On Friday, the Bulldogs had three players represented by the Big South, with Nadiria Evans being named First Team All-Big South, Kai Carter earning Second Team All-Big South and Tamiah Lewis making the All-Academic team.
