ATLANTA, Ga. – UNC Asheville women's basketball assistant coach Paige Love has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2021 Thirty-Under-30 list. The Thirty-Under-30 is a list of 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of women's college basketball.
Love, who played for the Bulldogs from 2012-2016, recently wrapped up her first season on Head Coach Honey Brown's staff in 2020-21. Before her return to Asheville, she spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Texas State. Love coached four All-Sun Belt players during her tenure with the Bobcats. She also helped coach Texas State to a program Division I era record 23 victories in 2017-18 and an appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Following that campaign, she was a roundtable speaker at the WBCA Convention at the Final Four in Columbus, Ohio. She presented "Behind the Scenes: The Graduate Assistant Life."
"It is truly an honor to be recognized by the WBCA, and I feel extremely blessed to be able to do something I love on a daily basis," said Love. "I thrive on pouring into and empowering females through sport. UNC Asheville women's basketball sets a standard of excellence, and I am excited to be a part of this journey with Coach Brown and the rest of the program. Go Bulldogs!"
During her career as a player, Love helped the Bulldogs win the 2016 Big South regular season and tournament championships. It marked the program's second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Off the court, Love was a winner of the William and Ida Friday Award for Service to Community, a nominee for the WBCA All-State Good Works Team, the John Wooden Citizen Cup, and the NCAA Woman of the Year award. After her senior year, Love was named UNC Asheville's Female "Big Dog of the Year" and earned the athletic department's Bulldog Service and Leadership Award.
This is the sixth year of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 program. To see a year-by-year list of past honorees, visit www.wbca.org/recognize/.
