Men’s Tennis travels to Charlotte on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Charlotte for a dual match with the 49ers at 1:00 p.m.
Asheville enters the weekend 3-3 overall, topping Montreat 5-2 before narrowly falling to Chattanooga last weekend. Leo Bierbaum is a perfect 6-0 in singles matches for the year, winning a back and forth match at the No. 5 flight on Sunday. Bierbaum is also 4-1 in doubles action at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Oli Nolan has gone 2-4 at the No. 1 flight, while Charlie Morkel is 3-2 at the No. 2 flight. Morkel has teamed up with Jon Brann Reid as the duo is 3-1 in doubles action.
Scouting the 49ers
Saturday will mark the first home match of the season for Charlotte, who enters the weekend with a 7-5 record. Three of the five losses for the 49ers have come to top-25 teams, topping the Big South's Gardner-Webb 6-1. Charlotte has used four different players at the No. 1 singles, with Olle Wallin amassing a 3-1 record in that flight. The No. 2 flight is the same story, as Ignasi de Rueda is a perfect 3-0 and Henry Lieberman is 3-2. In doubles action, Charlotte has had 12 different combinations, going 18-25 this season.
The Series
Since 2011, Asheville and Charlotte have met five times, with the 49ers claiming four wins. The lone win for the Bulldogs came back in 2011 when Asheville topped Charlotte 5-1 on the road.
