Amaryah Corpening Named Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week

02.22.2021 | Women's Basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville's Amaryah Corpening had been named the Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played between February 15-21. Corpening is the third Bulldog to earn a weekly honor this season from the Big South, joining Nadiria Evans (Jan. 4 - Player of the Week) and Abigail Wilson (Feb. 1 - Freshman of the Week).

"We are so happy and proud of Amaryah," said Head Coach Honey Brown. "She does so many things for our team that does not show up on the stat line game after game. She had such an awesome week and is so deserving of this recognition!"

Corpening had a stellar last week to help the Bulldogs go 3-0. Corpening began the week netting the game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds to give Asheville a 61-59 victory at Presbyterian. Check out the shot below.

Corpening finished that night with a career-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The Morganton, N.C. native also played a significant factor in Asheville's two victories over Winthrop at Kimmel Arena on Friday and Saturday. In Friday's win, Corpening nearly notched a double-double with nine points and eight assists. Her eight assists set a new career-high for the senior guard. Finally, in Saturday's contest, Corpening netted 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists to help her team finish off its third straight win.
