BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville's Abigail Wilson has been named the Big South's Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the games played between Jan. 25-31. Wilson is the second Bulldog to receive a weekly honor this season, joining Nadiria Evans, who was named the Big South's Player of the Week on January 4.
"I'm so proud of Abigail," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Honey Brown. "Since we got back from break, she has been in the gym a lot, which has paid off with a great week. We consistently encourage Abigail to let her skills shine. We are excited and happy she got this award!"
Wilson, who is the first Bulldog to be named freshman of the week since Evans earned the same honor on Jan. 15, 2018, had a standout performance in Friday's 78-69 victory over Hampton. The China Grove, N.C. native, scored a career-high 15 points on a 6-for-11 effort from the field. Wilson also snatched five rebounds (four offensive) to go with two assists to help the cause.
Wilson and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to action on February 3 when they travel to Presbyterian. Wednesday's matchup between the Blue Hose and Bulldogs is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
