CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced its annual volleyball awards and All-Conference teams on Wednesday, and UNC Asheville's Grace Volk was tabbed the Big South's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. It marks the second consecutive season that Volk has earned this accolade.
"What a tremendous honor for Grace," said Head Coach Frederico Santos. "We are so proud of her, and all she has accomplished and continues to accomplish here at UNC Asheville, on and off the court."
As mentioned previously, it marks the second time in her career that Volk has earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. By earning this award a second time, Volk has become one of just five volleyball players since 1994 to achieve this honor more than once and the first to do so since Radford's Emma Deininger in 2013 and 2014.
In addition to the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, Volk has landed a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and was awarded the prestigious Goldwater scholarship last spring. The Goldwater Scholarship is a national award for an undergraduate student in the natural sciences, engineering, or mathematics.
On the court, Volk appeared in 76 matches and 231 sets during her career as a Bulldog. She racked up 1,579 assists, 92 kills, 45 aces, 508 digs, and 63 total blocks in her time in Asheville. Her assist total ranks ninth all-time in the history of the program.
