LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams finished their season on a strong note Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. The men's program placed 22nd among 30 schools, while the women's team finished 27th out of 31.
"One of our best team finishes that we've had at the NCAA Regional," said Head Coach Adam Puett. "We put multiple people on our all-time list, so that is always a bonus when you end the year with a highlight."
As Coach Puett said, the Bulldogs had several players put together times in their respective races that rank among the best in the program's history in their distances. From the women's squad, Clara Wincheski led the way, placing 83rd with a time of 22:09.0. The duo of India Appleton (23:03.1) and Ashley Tysiac (23:34.6) both tallied times that rank among the top 25 times in a 6K in program history.
In the men's 10K race, seven Bulldogs took the course Friday, and each runner logged a time that ranked among the program's top 25 all-time. Asheville's runners Friday were John Ciprich (31:40.2), Daniel Hopkins (31:40.2), Jax Ledford (32:04.3), Adam Hessler (33:07.5), Brock Newsome (33:18.9), Quinn Jacquez (33:38.6), and Andrew Okon (34:56.0).
"We made some great progressions as a team this year, so I am excited about the future of our program," Puett added. "It's also bittersweet because we graduate some great women who laid a foundation for our program to grow from."
