ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's women's basketball head coach Honey Brown announced the signing of Raquel Cassidy to the team's 2020 signing class Friday afternoon.
Cassidy, who is a 5-11 post player, comes to the Bulldogs after one season playing for the College of Central Florida at the junior college level.
"I am very excited to add Raquel to our team for this upcoming season," said Brown. She is a hard worker and a great teammate. Raquel has natural rebounding ability and a high motor. Her willingness to be physical is something that I know will help us in the post."
In her one season at the junior college level, Cassidy appeared in all 34 games for the Lady Patriots totaling 145 points, 128 rebounds, 15 steals and 17 blocks. Additionally, she finished third on the team with 50 offensive rebounds and second on the squad in blocks.
Prior to her time at the College of Central Florida, Cassidy was a decorated prep player. The Huntersville, N.C. resident started on varsity as an eighth grader at The Rock school and became a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. She won MVP honors at multiple tournaments over her high school career and helped her team win two consecutive conference and regional championships as a junior and senior. She was a First Team All-County player as a senior and played for nationally ranked AAU team FGB from 2015-2018.
