Bulldogs Shine in Day One of Big South Championships

BLACKSBURG, VA. – UNC Asheville track and field finished day one of the Big South Indoor Championships with multiple podiums as UNC Asheville had a phenomenal day of competition.
After the first day of competition, UNC Asheville's men's program was in fourth place while the women's program sat in fifth place.
The Bulldogs claimed second place finishes in the men's and women's DMR. The men's quartet of Sage Turner, Bryson Riddick, Alex Haines and John Ciprich earned the second place finish with a time of 10:17.40. The women's quartet of Alyx Evans, Khadeesha Crumbly, Ava Nkadi and Madeline Nichols secured a second place finish with a time of 12:12.04.
Claudia Prieto medaled in the women's long jump as she secured a third place finish with a jump of 5.72 meters. Kathryn Brown finished sixth in the event with a time of 5.56 meters.
Desire Brown qualified for the finals in the women's 400m as she finished fifth with a time of 57.02.
The Bulldogs had three qualify for the finals in the men's 400m as Bryson Riddick led with a time of 48.86 while Tyree McFalling was one spot behind him with a time of 49.03. Isaac Teasley was the last Bulldog to qualify as he finished with a time of 49.22.
Akin Williams qualified for the finals in the men's 60 meters as he finished with the fourth-fastest time of 6.85.
Two Bulldogs qualified for the finals in the women's 800 meters as Alyx Evans finished with a time of 2:17.67 while Ava Nkadi finished with a time of 2:28.19.
Desire Brown also qualified for the finals in the women's 200 meter as the senior finished with a time 25.01.
Akin Williams will compete in the men's 200m as well as the men's 400m as he finished the 200 with a time of 22.14.
Thomas Little finished seventh in the men's 5000m as he finished with a time of 15:21.20. India Appleton finished 11th in the women's 5000 with a time a time of 18:43.05.
The Big South Indoor Championships will wrap up with day two of competition on Saturday.
