Bulldogs Start Out Hot at VMI

LEXINGTON, VA. – UNC Asheville track and field began the VMI Indoor Classic with a bang on day one Friday.
UNC Asheville finished in first place in the men's 400m DMR. The quartet of Sage Turner, Nick Roberts, Jacob Starace and Walker Lezotte claimed the top spot in the event by finishing three seconds faster than the second place team with a time of 10:19.79.
Solomon McDonald earned a second place finish in the men's weight throw as the freshman secured a throw of 12.61 meters that was just barely short of the first place finisher.
Claudia Prieto finished sixth in the women's triple jump as the sophomore secured a jump of 11.32 meters while Kathryn Brown finished eighth with a jump of 11.25 meters.
Akin Williams will compete in the men's 60m finals after finishing eighth in the prelims and seventh in the semis with a time of 6.93.
The Bulldogs grabbed two top five finishes in the men's 400 meter as Tyree McFalling earned a third place finish with a time of 48.59 while Isaac Teasley finished fifth with a time of 48.86.
Teasley also finished 11th in the men's triple jump with a jump of 13.52 meters.
Desire Brown finished in the number five spot in the women's 400 meter as she ran a time of 57.41. She was only three seconds behind the first place finisher.
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the women's 4x800 as Alyx Evans, Madeline Nichols, Ava Nkadi and India Appleton finished with a time of 9:35.80.
The Bulldogs will compete in day two at VMI on Saturday with events beginning at 10 a.m.
