Women’s Basketball signs three players for 2021-22

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Women's Basketball Coach Honey Brown announced that the team has signed three players for the 2021-22 season as a part of the NCAA's early signing period. The newest Bulldogs are Mallory Bruce (Greenville, S.C.), Carly Fahey (Suwanee, Ga.), and Alonna Sellers (Hampton, Va.).

"Our staff did a great job finding talented players and building relationships with these young ladies," said Brown. "I could not be more pleased with my first freshman class. All three of these players bring versatility which I love. We have added athleticism, competitive drive, size, and scoring ability in Carly, Mallory, and Alonna. These ladies are tremendous people, great students, and will grow into future leaders at UNC Asheville. I am grateful they are officially Bulldogs and I cannot wait to coach them!"

Mallory Bruce – Guard – 5-11 – Greenville, S.C. (Travelers Rest HS)

Averaged 24.5 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game last season
Has earned two All-Region, two Offensive Player of the Year, and All-State honors
Set School Record by scoring 45 points in a game
Two-time All-Region pick in volleyball as well
A member of the National Honor Society

Coach's Take – "Mallory Bruce is a player who loves the game and thrives on getting better," Brown said of Bruce. "I was impressed with her willingness to challenge herself on travel teams, working on her own game, and training against other college players. She is an aggressive guard with great size and length. Mallory has excelled in almost every statistical category in high school and I see her doing the same for us. She has a nice mid-range game, an attacking mindset, and is comfortable playing multiple positions on the court. Mallory is stretching her game to be a consistent three-point shooter and I have no doubt she will work tirelessly to make it happen. She will bring great energy like several other South Carolina guards we have recruited as Bulldogs."

Carly Fahey – Guard – 5-8 – Suwanee, Ga. (Hebron Christian Academy)

Has scored 910 points, dished out 340 assists, grabbed 286 rebounds, and added 297 steals during her high school career
GHSA All-Region team selection in 2017-18 and 2018-19
Helped lead her team to a 30-1 record last season after leading Gwinnett County with 197 assists
Named the Best Passer among Class A Private schools in Georgia
Has a 4.2 grade-point average in high school

Coach's Take – "Carly is a winner in all facets," remarked Brown. "She is a key component for every sport or team she has played on. She is a versatile guard who is a coach on the floor for her team and has played against some top competition in her career. Competing for championships every year gives her an edge on what it takes to be successful. She is the epitome of being a team player and doing whatever it takes to win. Carly does a great job pushing tempo and is a tremendous passer. She also brings a very impressive three-point shooting ability which we love to have in our system. Carly has a very high basketball IQ along with great feel for the game that I am excited to coach. We are looking forward to adding her toughness and competitive spirit to our team."

Alonna Sellers – Forward/Center – 6-1 – Hampton, Va. (Hampton HS)

Helped her team go 26-1 overall and 17-1 in league play last season
Helped lead her squad to a share of a State Championship
Averaged nearly a double-double (10 PPG, 8 RPG) last season
Proposed engineering major at UNC Asheville
Also has a 4.2 grade-point average

Coach's Take – "Alonna is an athletic post player that finds a way to bring it all the time," said Brown. "When I first saw her, she reminded me of a combination of two posts we have had in our program that helped bring us championships and I knew we needed her to be a Bulldog. She is physical in the paint and relentless on the boards. She has great instinct and is very aggressive, which has allowed her to average almost a double-double. Alonna is a worker and continues to find ways to score in the post while having nice touch away from the basket. My entire staff knew her personality fits well with our team first mindset. Alonna finds ways to be a force on her team and I am excited to have her join us!"
