Swimming & Diving Hosts Liberty on Friday

10.22.2020 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will be back in action on Friday against Liberty. The diving portion will take place at the Jewish Community Center in Asheville and begin at 4 p.m., while swimming will compete at the Justice Center Pool beginning at 5 p.m. Diving can be viewed on the Facebook Live Stream, while swimming will be streamed on ESPN+ live or on replay.

Last Time Out – The Bulldogs earned a rare tie with Campbell last Saturday in Asheville. After several lead changes, the Bulldogs and Fighting Camels ended in a 131-131 draw. UNC Asheville's unbeaten streak in dual meets was extended to five dating back to last season with the tie.

Swimmer of the Week – Earlier today, sophomore Delaney Carlton was named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week. Carlton, who won two events and posted stellar splits in the two relay events against Campbell, is just the fourth Bulldog to earn the CCSA Swimmer of the Week award, joining Morgan Rulevich, Skylar Rogan, and Alexandra Van Dorsten.

Other Standouts vs. Campbell – Carlton wasn't the only Bulldog to have a strong showing on Saturday. Amelia Ham scored a team-high 22 points for Asheville thanks to event wins in the 100y breaststroke and 200y individual medley to go along with a second-place finish in the 200y breaststroke. Freshman Kylie Johnson began her collegiate career with wins in the 500y and 1000y freestyle events. Fellow freshmen Addison Wright, Sammy Kershner, teamed up with Carlton and Ham to give the Bulldogs a relay win in the 200y medley event.

About Liberty – Liberty is coming off back-to-back CCSA conference championships. The 2019-20 Lady Flames went 13-3, including a perfect 5-0 run in league play on their way to their second straight conference crown. 2019-20 continues the trend of success for Liberty. Since the beginning of the 2016-17 season, the Lady Flames are 49-7 in dual meets. Individually, a swimmer to watch for Liberty is Payton Keiner, a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-American last season.

How to Follow – As mentioned earlier, both portions of Friday's meet will be streamed. Diving can be viewed on the Facebook Live Stream, while swimming will be streamed on ESPN+ live or via replay. Additional following options include the Meet Mobile app and the UNC Asheville Swimming & Diving Twitter account.
