Bulldogs Fall to East Carolina in Home Match

ASHEVILLE – In a match scheduled just days before it was played, UNC Asheville's women's soccer team fell at home to East Carolina, 5-0, Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (1-3-0) hosted a fellow member of the UNC System after the Pirates (1-2-1) were forced to evacuate Greenville due to the effects of Hurricane Dorian. The Bulldogs had a match originally scheduled against The Citadel that had to be canceled due to the storm's threat.
After an opening salvo that saw ECU maintain much of the possession for the first 10 minutes, the Bulldogs took the ball for the next 10 and recorded a couple of shots: one by Chloe Lamenzo and one by Skylar Chillson that forced a save from the Pirates' goalkeeper.
The Pirates would respond, scoring the game's first goal in the 26th minute, and the score would remain 1-0 at halftime. Less than a minute into the second half, the Pirates scored again, starting a strong half offensively.
The Bulldogs will have an opportunity to rebound quickly, as they head to Elon for a 4 p.m., Sunday contest. The Phoenix are 4-1-0 on the season and are coming off a 3-1 victory at Richmond, Thursday.
