UNC Asheville Athletics Reveals Branded Bus for Team Travel with Young Transportation

09.04.2019 | Athletics News

ASHEVILLE – In conjunction with UNC Asheville Athletics' partner Young Transportation, the Bulldogs teams will travel to their road contests in style as a new charter bus branded with the UNC Asheville athletic and university logos was revealed, Thursday, August 29.

Bulldog supporters Dr. Louis and Sally Stein helped make the project possible by contributing to the full wrap of the bus that features both logos, silhouettes of surrounding mountains and, of course, the Young Transportation logo.

"A heartfelt thank you to our loyal Bulldog friends, Dr. Louis and Sally Stein and to Young Transportation for providing us with a branded bus," Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said.  "Providing safe and reliable transportation and a first-class student-athlete experience are both important priorities for Bulldog Athletics. Having our teams travel across the state and beyond on this bus is a great way to promote UNC Asheville and foster school pride, too!"

Athletic administrators, coaches and student athletes gathered around the statue of Rocky outside the Justice Center as the bus made its maiden voyage to campus. There was certainly an air of excitement from all there when they laid eyes on it for the first time.

"When I saw the bus for the first time I honestly teared up a little bit, and I don't cry very often," women's basketball head coach Brenda Kirkpatrick Brown said. "The driving support behind a project like this and any enhancement to our programs comes from people like Lou and Sally Stein who get a behind the scenes look into how amazing our student-athletes are and they want to get on board and help. We are so grateful that they wanted to do contribute in a way that not only increases the visibility of our athletic program but also shows our student-athletes that how we travel matters. We are all working hard to make every aspect of the student-athlete experience first class at UNC Asheville.

"I want to thank Young Transportation and the Steins for collaborating on this project and look forward to working with others in the community in the future on similar projects to take our programs to the next level."

The men's soccer team got to take the first ride on the bus, loading up after the big reveal to the athletics department to head to Annapolis, Maryland to take on the United States Naval Academy in its season opener.

The bus will be available to UNC Asheville athletics teams first, but when not in use by the Bulldogs, it will be put into Young Transportation's regular service, so UNC Asheville's branding will be seen across North Carolina and beyond, whether the Bulldogs are traveling or not.
