Hichman Scores Fourth Goal of the Season, but Bulldogs Unable to Overcome Spartans

The Bulldogs (1-4-1) struggled to gain any traction on the attack in the first half, getting away only two shots in the opening stanza. Meanwhile, the Spartans (2-4) found their rhythm early, scoring their first goal less than nine minutes into the match. They would increase their lead in the 24th minute and take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Bulldogs were able to put more pressure on the Spartans offensively, firing 11 shots in the second half. They also earned more corner kicks in the match, having six attempts to the Spartans' four. Four of the Bulldogs' six corner kicks came in a minute-and-a-half span with just less than 30 minutes remaining in the match, but they were only able to muster one shot.
With the score 4-0 in favor of the visitors, Hichman took up position in the box and after UNCG's keeper came off his line to try to unsuccessfully knock away a cross, Hichman collected the loose ball and fired it into the back of the net.
With his fourth goal of the season, Hichman has already equaled Izaiah Vignali's team-leading four goals from last season.
"UNCG was fantastic tonight," head coach Mathes Mennell said. "There's not much to say when a team outworks you, out-hustles you and outplays you: it's a bad recipe. We're not going to enjoy looking at the film because we did not put our best foot forward tonight, but that being said, the sun will rise tomorrow, we'll get back to work and we're on to Wofford."
