UNC Asheville Volleyball to Make the Caravan to Cullowhee

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's volleyball will make the short trek to Western Carolina for a 6 p.m., Tuesday, matchup with the Catamounts.
The Bulldogs (5-4) split their matches over the weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational, falling to the host Eagles after taking the first set of the match. They rebounded nicely, sweeping Southern Miss, Saturday, to close out their stay in Statesboro.
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Julia Borges, who is tops on the team in kills (81) and service aces (8). However, the senior has been a stalwart defensively, earning the Big South Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for her performances against South Carolina State, Georgia Southern and Southern Miss. She recorded 31 digs and 14 total blocks (4 solo) in that span. She leads the team with 29 total blocks, 10 solo blocks and is second with 98 digs.
Senior Ansley Rooks continues to be a force in the offensive attack and is second on the team with 75 kills, including a season-best 12 against Southern Miss, Saturday. She also has 87 digs on the season, reaching the 500-career dig milestone against Georgia Southern.
Sophomore Molly Hackett exploded for a career-best 16 kills against Southern Miss, and sits just behind Rooks with 74 on the season. Sophomore Grace Volk and senior Kailey Hackett have been the catalysts on offense, combining for 274 assists.
Joining Borges at the net, middle blockers Cecilia Stack and Julia Loveday have contributed 20 and 17 blocks so far this season, respectively.
The Catamounts are 2-7 on the year and are coming off a tough weekend tournament that saw them fall to Appalachian State, NC State and Iowa State at the Appalachian Invitational. The Bulldogs won the last meeting against the Catamounts, 3-1, last season at the Justice Center.
