Bulldogs Conclude First Event of Fall Season in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team wrapped up its first competition of the fall slate, Sunday, at the Southern Exposure Sunrooms Seahawk Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington.

Nine teams participated in the three-day event, including the host Seahawks, Florida, Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, North Florida, VCU and Georgia Gwinnett.

Two Bulldogs picked up victories on the final day of action as Finlay Ray McFadyen and Edward Colclough each won in the back draw finals of their respective singles flights. McFadyen secured victory in his match after two tightly-contested sets against Chesco Cori of Coastal Carolina, eventually prevailing, 7-6, 7-5, in Flight D1.

In Flight D2 action, Colclough also found himself in a first-set battle, winning 7-5 against Georgia Gwinnett's Stefano Puga. He made quick work of Puga in the second set, securing victory with a 6-1 effort in set two.

Oli Nolan and Harry Thursfield were the Bulldogs' only doubles pair to make it to the championship side of the bracket, but a loss Saturday put them into the third-place match against Brian Berdusco and Josh Goodger of Florida. The pair of Gators claimed the bronze in Flight A Doubles, 6-2.

The Bulldogs will have a few weeks off before hosting the Bulldogs Doubles Challenge, October 4-6, at the Asheville Racquet Club.
