Men’s and Women’s Cross Country to Compete in the USC Upstate Eye Opener Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Asheville's men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the USC Upstate Eye Opener, Friday, September 13, in Spartanburg, S.C. The women will kick off the event with their race beginning at 5:45 p.m., while the men's race will take place shortly after the conclusion of the women's race.
Last Time Out – Covered Bridge Open
Senior Thomas Little had the highest Bulldog finish with a 13th place spot in the men's race with a time of 26:12.95. Fellow senior Graham Parker finished two spots behind Little with a time of 26:22.30, while Sage Turner was just off their lead with a time of 26:48.78. Freshman John Ciprich kicked off his UNC Asheville career with a time of 27:30.28.
Sophomore Clara Wincheski paced the Bulldogs in the women's race with a time of 20:05.65. India Appleton wasn't far behind with a time of 20:34.70, while Ashley Tysiac and Morgan Costelloe finished with times of 21:12.39 and 21:27.42, respectively.
Preseason Polls
UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country entered the 2019 campaigns predicted to finish fourth in the Big South Conference.
The men's team received a total of 82 points with seven fourth place votes, three fifth place votes and one seventh place vote, while the women's team received a total of 83 points with six fourth-place votes and five fifth-place votes.
Last season, both teams finished fourth at the Big South Cross Country Championships.
About the USC Upstate Eye Opener
The USC Upstate Eye Opener is an annual event that takes place at the Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C., and is located adjacent to the campus of USC Upstate. The women will race on a 5K course, while the men will compete on an 8K course.
