ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville swimming and diving head coach Elizabeth Lykins announced the addition of Ian Quinn as the assistant coach for swimming on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019.

"I am excited to welcome Ian to Asheville, N.C. and the Bulldog swimming & diving family," head coach Elizabeth Lykins said. "Throughout the interview process I was impressed with Ian's desire to learn, his energetic personality and his eagerness to help others. I feel confident his skill set will be well utilized in this role and have an opportunity to expand."

Quinn comes to Asheville after most recently spending two years as a Swim Coach at the YMCA of Montclair in Montclair, N.J.

"I'm very excited to be joining the Bulldog family at UNC Asheville!" said Quinn. "Coach Lykins and her staff have done a marvelous job over the past few years to turn the women's swimming and diving team into serious conference contenders, as well as the team having success in the classroom. Coming from Vassar College, I am very familiar with the feel of a small liberal arts college and I am looking forward to that type of inclusive and invigorating environment. While I know I have some big shoes to fill with Coach Daniel moving on, I know I am up to the challenge and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish as a team this season."

While at the YMCA of Montclair, Quinn was the Lead Coach for two developmental groups and one senior group. He was also an Assistant Coach for the National Group. Quinn spearheaded the initiative to develop a strength and conditioning program based off of guidelines from the National Strength and Conditioning Association for the benefit of Senior and National Group swimmers. He also had five swimmers qualify for 2019 YMCA Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. and eight swimmers qualify for 2019 YMCA Long Course Nationals in College Park, Md.

For the last nine summers, Quinn has worked as an Assistant Manager and Head Swim Coach for the Glen Ridge Country Club in Glen Ridge, N.J.  While there, he coached a team of 100 kids, taught private swimming lessons and organized and directed swim meets.

This summer, Quinn worked as a Swim Camp Coach at the University of Georgia and at Stanford University. The opportunity to work these camps allowed Quinn to work alongside and learn from National Championship staffs and Olympic level coaches and swimmers.

Quinn is a certified USA Swim Coach and is certified by the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding/CPR.

Quinn received a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies in 2017 from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

While at Vassar College, Quinn was a member of the Division III Varsity Swim Team and competed in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events. He also played Division II Varsity Rugby for two seasons.
