Over 70 Percent of UNC Asheville Student-Athletes Named to Big South Presidential Honor Roll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 2018-19 Big South Presidential Honor Roll was officially released on Thursday, July 25, and over 70 percent of UNC Asheville student-athletes earned the prestigious status.
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year, and this past season, 1,945 out of 3,302 eligible student-athletes in the Big South (58.90 percent) achieved the benchmark. The 58.90 percentage marks the fifth consecutive year above 55 percent for the Big South.
UNC Asheville had 70.81 percent (131) of its 185 Big South student-athletes among the honorees.
"Every year I continue to be impressed with the efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom along with their efforts in competition and in the community," UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "UNC Asheville is one of the top academic institutions in the country, and this just continues to show that they are true champions and leaders on our campus, in the Big South and nationally. This also is a true credit to our coaches and our academic support staff led by Rebecca Nelms. They all put in a great deal of time so that our student-athletes can thrive in the classroom."
UNC Asheville student-athletes posted a grade-point average of 3.238 during the 2018-19 athletic year.
The 2018-19 GPA improves upon last year's impressive in its own right combined grade-point average of 3.142.
On the year, UNC Asheville athletics had a total of 239 student-athletes suit up for the Bulldogs, and impressively 165 of 239 (69 percent) finished the 2018-19 athletic year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to garner AD Honor Roll honors.
UNC Asheville had a total of 80 student-athletes finish the 2018-19 athletic year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher to earn Dean's List honors. A total of 21 Bulldogs finished the academic year with a perfect 4.0 GPA to collect Chancellor's List accolades.
The women's athletic teams at UNC Asheville all owned an annual GPA of 3.3 or higher with women's tennis leading the way (3.665). On the men's side of things, men's soccer (3.207) posted the highest GPA in the 2018-19 athletic year.
In addition, 42 Bulldogs graduated from UNC Asheville during the May 2019 Commencement exercises held at Kimmel Arena inside the Sherrill Center on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
