Three Bulldogs Earn NCCSIA All-State Honors

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Three UNC Asheville baseball players were named to the 2019 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Baseball Teams on Monday, June 10, 2019.

UNC Asheville's Brandon Lankford was chosen to the second team as an infielder, while Greg Gasparro was tabbed to the second team as an outfielder. Austin Fahr was chosen to the second team as a relief pitcher.

Lankford's latest honor comes after a season in which he was named first-team All-Big South. Lankford led the Bulldogs with a career-best 15 home runs this season. He now has 33 home runs in his three years as a Bulldog, which is second-best in program history.

Lankford also led the Bulldogs with 109 total bases, 44 runs scored and a .580 slugging percentage. Lankford hit .287 with 54 hits and 35 RBIs in the 2019 season. The Mocksville, N.C. native totaled 14 multi-hit games, nine multi-RBI games and two multi-home run games.

Gasparro led the Bulldogs with a .329 batting average while spending most of his time in the lead-off spot. The Pennington, N.J. native led UNC Asheville with a .434 on base percentage. In total, he had 48 hits, 29 runs scored and 10 doubles.

Gasparro was named the March 4 Big South Player of the Week.

An Honorable Mention All-Big South selection, Fahr appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen, throwing 36.2 innings while allowing only nine earned runs. The Greer, S.C. native pitched 24 innings versus Big South Conference opponents and surrendered one earned run, giving him a 0.38 ERA in conference matchups.

In Fahr's lone start of the season, he threw six innings of three hit ball while giving up one run and striking out six to claim the victory over Gardner-Webb on May 16.

Nominations were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, softball and baseball.
