Four Bulldogs Earn All-Big South Baseball Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four Bulldogs received 2019 Big South Baseball postseason accolades when the conference awards were officially announced on Monday, May 20, 2019.
UNC Asheville's Brandon Lankford was a first-team selection, while Danny Wilson was tabbed to the second-team. Austin Fahr was an Honorable Mention All-Big South selection. UNC Asheville's Jordan Carr was tabbed to the Big South Baseball All-Academic Team.
Chosen first-team all-league as an infielder, Lankford closed out the regular season with an impressive 24 extra-base hits on 15 home runs, eight doubles and one triple. The 15 home runs were second-most in the Big South and are currently among the top-40 in the country.
Lankford was also eighth in the league in total bases (108) and on-base percentage (.421). He was third in the league in slugging percentage (.587). Lankford had 14 multi-hit games during the regular season.
Wilson ended the regular season with a team-best (league fourth-best) 48 RBIs. He owned a .309 batting average and he had 19 extra-base hits in total with 12 doubles, six home runs and one triple. Wilson also scored 33 runs.
Tabbed to the second-team as an infielder, Wilson reached base in 26 straight games at one point during the regular season. He had 13 multi-RBI games and 14 multi-hit games during the regular season. In the field, the first baseman owned an impressive .992 fielding percentage.
Named Honorable Mention as a relief pitcher, Fahr owned a 0.38 ERA in league play. He was 2-0 overall in league play in 10 appearances with opponents hitting just .233 against him in conference play. On the season, Fahr made 21 appearances. He pitched 24.0 of his 36.2 innings on the season in conference play.
During the regular season overall, UNC Asheville opponents hit just .265 against Fahr, who fanned six in 6.0 innings on the hill in Asheville's win over Gardner-Webb on May 16.
A redshirt junior on the field, Carr has been a valuable piece of the Bulldog pitching arsenal for the last four years despite battling injuries. As a freshman he pitched in 70.1 innings and fanned 35. After missing 2017 due to injury, Carr tossed 46.2 innings in 2018. He was named the Feb. 19, 2018 Big South Pitcher of the Week. Carr has made 13 starts so far this season in pitching a team-best 63.0 innings. He has 42 strikeouts.
In the classroom, Carr entered the spring semester with a 3.336 grade-point average as a Management major. He graduated from UNC Asheville earlier this month.
The UNC Asheville baseball team will be the ninth seed in the 2019 Big South Baseball Championship that will be contested May 21-25 at SEGRA Stadium.
As the ninth seed, the Bulldogs (16-35, 9-18 Big South) will face sixth-seeded High Point (23-25, 14-13 Big South) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, at SEGRA Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.
The winner of the first round matchup will move on to the double elimination portion of the championship that gets underway on Wednesday, May 22.
