Lankford Homers, Pagano Has Two Doubles in UNC Asheville Second Game Loss to Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb (24-24, 13-13 Big South) started the game strongly by scoring 10 runs over the course of the first two innings.
The next couple of innings were scoreless for both teams before UNC Asheville (16-34, 10-16 Big South) arrived on the scoreboard for the first time in the game in the top of the fifth inning.
The top of the fifth frame commenced for the Bulldogs with Jake Madole singling through the left side. Lankford took advantage of a runner on base by hitting his second home run in as many days to center field to make the score 10-2 in favor of Gardner-Webb.
The two-run home run by Lankford marked the third time this season that he has homered in consecutive games. He now has 15 home runs on the 2019 campaign.
Gardner-Webb would add another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-2.
UNC Asheville would not go down without a fight though in the top of the ninth. Asheville loaded the bases in the inning, and Pagano's second double of the day scored two more runs to set the final score at 11-4 in Gardner-Webb's favor.
Gardner-Webb out-hit UNC Asheville, 13-10, overall in the game.
Four Bulldogs finished with multiple hits with Pagano collecting two doubles and two RBIs with his two hits. Lankford finished with a home run, two hits, two RBIS and two runs scored. Madole scored one run to go along with his two hits. Chris Troost was the final Bulldog with two hits.
Chris Clary led Gardner-Webb with two hits and five RBIs on two home runs.
Isaac Campbell (4-4) earned the win for Gardner-Webb, while Jacob Edwards (3-5) took the loss. Edwards had four strikeouts.
The series now tied at 1-1, the rubber game in the 2019 "Battle of the Bulldogs" will get underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.
