Every year the event gets bigger and bigger, and the 2019 edition of the "Our Turn to Play Scholarship Luncheon" presented by Wells Fargo was no different.
In fact, this year's edition of the annual event was the biggest ever with well over 500 in attendance on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, from 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the Kimmel Arena floor inside the Wilma M. Sherrill Center.
"The turnout today continues to show the powerful growth of women's athletics in our area and across the country," UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "When we started this event it was just an idea that we hoped would catch on, but now so many years later it has become one of the must-do events on the Asheville calendar. I could not be more thankful and proud of what we are accomplishing with the 'Our Turn to Play Scholarship Luncheon' presented by Wells Fargo."
This year's event featured keynote speaker Lesley Visser, who could not have been more impressed with the "Our Turn to Play Scholarship Luncheon" presented by Wells Fargo (interview below).
Cone knows the funds raised during the "Our Turn to Play Scholarship Luncheon" presented by Wells Fargo are critical for UNC Asheville athletics.
"The annual 'Our Turn to Play Scholarship Luncheon' supporting women's athletic scholarships is one of our most important events of the year," Cone said. "This fundraising event is key to the success of our women's athletics programs, and just like every year we have been overwhelmed by the amount of individuals who are supporting us in this endeavor."
Cone knows this would all not be possible without the continued support of those who work tirelessly to make the event a success.
"I want to say thank you to not only our sponsors and 'Our Turn to Play' committee members, but to Asheville for showing up strong for our women," Cone said.
