Baseball Hosts Mountain Rival Appalachian State For Midweek Tilt on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is set to play a non-conference midweek matchup with mountain rival Appalachian State on Wednesday at Greenwood Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

UNC Asheville's Brandon Lankford hit his 10th home run of the season this past weekend. The 10 home runs is tied for the league lead and keeps him among the top-20 in the country in the category. Lankford now has 28 home runs in his career, which is tied for second in program history. His 10 home runs already this season ties his career-best that he originally set during his Freshman All-American season in 2017.
Cuozzi He is a Good Player
Anthony Cuozzi led Asheville last week with a .556 (5-of-9) batting average. He had a career-best three hits in Asheville's series finale at Presbyterian College.
About the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are 11-19 on the season and are 6-6 in the Big South Conference. UNC Asheville is currently tied for fifth place in the conference standings. The Bulldogs are 7-2 in games played at Greenwood Field.
UNC Asheville has four players hitting over .280 that have started at least 20 games. Greg Gasparro at .351, Danny Wilson at .316, Dominic Freeberger at .296 and Brandon Lankford at .280 have proven to be offensive catalysts for the Bulldogs in the 2019 season. Kole Harris has also made 13 appearances and picked up six saves in his 16.1 innings of work.

The Mountaineers are 12-18 on the season and 5-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. Appalachian State is 4-9 in road games in the 2019 season. They have lost their last two conference series to Georgia Southern and Texas State. The Mountaineers also fell to Big South Conference member Radford 5-0 in a midweek matchup on March 26.
Luke Drumheller leads the offense for the Mountaineers. The freshman infielder leads the team in at bats, hits, doubles, RBIs and total bases.
