Men’s Tennis Travels to Gardner-Webb Looking to Claim at Least Share of Big South Regular Season Title

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team is scheduled to play its final match of the regular season on Tuesday, April 9 versus Gardner-Webb. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The UNC Asheville men's tennis team has put together an impressive season with a 19-3 overall record and a 6-1 record inside the Big South Conference. The Bulldogs closed out their home schedule on April 6 with a perfect 10-0 record in home matches.
If UNC Asheville defeats Gardner-Webb, Asheville will claim at least a share of the 2019 Big South Men's Tennis regular season title (Full Standings).

Last Time Out
UNC Asheville celebrated Senior Day with a dominating 7-0 win over Hampton on Saturday, April 6.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 2 from Olly Cull and Sirawit Daosaengsawang. Hampton did not field a team at No. 3, giving UNC Asheville the doubles point with the win at No. 2. The match at No. 1 was left unfinished.
The Bulldogs dominated the singles portion of the match with six victories. Freshman Leo Bierbaum kicked things off with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4. Quinn Fender followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
Senior Olly Cull grabbed the match-clinching victory at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Luke Thompson. Daosaengsawang played at No. 1 for the second time this season and picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Charlie Morkel won his team leading 15th match of the season 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Hampton did not field a player at No. 6, giving UNC Asheville the 7-0 victory.

Breaking Down the Bulldogs
Sophomore Charlie Morkel leads the Bulldogs with 15 singles wins on the season. Morkel has played at No. 1-5. Two-time Big South Player of the Year Henry Patten has compiled 14 singles victories on the season while playing all his matches at No. 1.
Freshman Leo Bierbaum also has 14 wins and has played at No. 4-6 thus far. Oli Nolan and freshman Sirawit Daosaengsawang have both picked up 11 wins currently on the season. Nolan has played all his matches at No. 1-2, while Daosaengsawang has played at No. 1-4.
Olly Cull and Quinn Fender both have eight wins on the season. Fender has played anywhere from No. 2-6 this season, while Cull has played No. 2-5.
In doubles, Oli Nolan and Henry Patten are an impressive 7-0 in the spring season. Despite still being undefeated on the year the pairing is now ranked second nationally after spending much of the spring ranked No. 1.
Nolan and Patten went undefeated playing together during the fall and won three titles including the national championship victory at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
