Track and Field Concludes Competition at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the Duke Invitational on Saturday evening. Due to inclement weather on Friday most of the events were held on Saturday in a modified schedule.
BULLDOG BITES
Women's Highlights
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Kelley Coleman secured a top 20 finish with a time of 11:28.61 while Morgan Costelloe finished 10 spots behind her teammate with a time of 12:10.79.
Madeline Nichols finished in the top half of all competitors in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:50.87.
Desire Brown finished three seconds away from a first-place finish in the women's 400m with a finish of 57.51.
Alyx Evans ran a time of 2:18.70 in the women's 800m. Evans was less than seven seconds away from a top 10 finish.
Three Bulldogs ran in the women's 200m. Kindra Mingo finished with a time of 26.16 while Khadeesha Crumbly ran a 26.53. Asia Washington was the final Bulldog to run in the event and finished with a time of 26.84.
UNC Asheville finished 16th overall in the women's 4x100 relay. Claudia Prieto Alcaide, Brown, Washington and Mingo ran a time of 48.22.
Two Bulldogs ran in the women's 5000m and finished less than a second apart from each other. Megan Brewer finished with a time of 19:30.61 while India Appleton finished one spot behind her teammate with a time of 19:31.53.
Men's Highlights
UNC Asheville had two athletes finish in the top 15 in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Sage Turner finished 13th with a time of 9:46.20 while Zach Boone finished one spot behind his teammate with a time of 9:47.41.
Graham Parker secured a top 25 finish in what was one of the largest events of the entire meet in the men's 1500m. The junior finished with a time of 4:01.74 in an event that saw 94 competitors cross the finish line. Parker was less than six seconds away from a top 10 finish.
Tyree McFalling finished the men's 400m with a time of 49.83. The junior sprinter was less than three seconds away from a first-place finish.
Matthew Barrera finished the men's 800m with an impressive time of 2:00.19.
Two Bulldogs finished the men's 400m hurdles in under one minute. Nick Roberts ran a time of 56.91 while Grant Lindsay finished six spots behind his teammate with a time of 59.16.
Three Bulldogs finished within .04 seconds of each other in the men's 200m. Akin Williams ran a time of 23.13 while Lee Goins ran a 23.15. McFalling was the third Bulldog to run and finished with a time of 23.17.
Thomas Little finished the men's 5000m with a time of 15:45.52.
In the men's 4x100m relay Denley Joseph, Williams, Goings and McFalling all finished with an impressive time of 43.29.
Victor Mathuthu finished 14th overall in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.80 meters. That jump is now good enough for the third longest jump in UNC Asheville history.
Mathuthu also had the second highest jump in UNC Asheville history in the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.05 meters.

UNC Asheville track and field will be back in action next weekend in Kennesaw, Ga. for the Don McGarey Invitation on April 26-27.
