ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The second annual Bulldog Challenge Facebook LIVE event was a huge hit once again.
In fact, approximately $9,000 was donated over the course of the hour-long event. UNC Asheville has now raised over $25,000 over the course of the first two Bulldog Challenge Facebook LIVE events.

This year's Bulldog Challenge Facebook LIVE event allowed fans to hear from student-athletes talking about their goals, competing in mini-challenges, and ultimately, ending up in the water.
A total of over $160,000 has now been raised over the course of the two-week long 2019 Bulldog Challenge as of the end of the Facebook LIVE event.
UNC Asheville volleyball raised the most money during the second annual Bulldog Challenge Facebook LIVE event on Thursday, March 28, with almost $4,000 raised.
Due to their strong efforts on the evening, UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos made his way into the pool thanks to the help of his team to celebrate their success.
"What a great night to celebrate our student-athletes," Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics Betsy Blose said. "Hopefully this will continue to be a tradition. It's good to see everybody out tonight having a great time. It's about the student-athletes and creating a great experience for them by raising some funds. I want to thank everybody that has donated to the Bulldog Challenge and everybody that participated tonight in the Facebook LIVE event. It takes a village."
Started in 2014 by Blose, the Bulldog Challenge at its beginning was created to help increase the student-athlete alumni giving participation rate at UNC Asheville.
The campaign was originally a month-long event designed to align with March Madness with all of the funds raised going towards the UNC Asheville team enhancement accounts.
During the first year in 2014 there were a total of 67 donors with $5,187 raised altogether. The next year there were 244 donors with $21,036 raised.
Over the years the annual Bulldog Challenge continued to become a staple for the university with the 2017 Bulldog Challenge going 265 percent past its original goal of $40,000 with $107,015 raised.
Last year, UNC Asheville set an ambitious goal of $125,000. Once again, Bulldog fans and friends were more than up to the challenge with a record $131,963 raised. An impressive nearly $35,000 of the over $130,000 donated was raised by current UNC Asheville student-athletes.
This year's goal during the two-week Bulldog Challenge is even more ambitious with efforts in place to hopefully raise $175,000.
Every dollar – and every donor – helps strengthen the UNC Asheville student-athlete experience.
"There is still time to give," Blose said. "We will close out this year's Bulldog Challenge on March 31 at midnight, so please continue to support your favorite team and your favorite student-athletes."
Give back today and help your team create the next generation of champions – on the court and in the classroom.
