Bulldogs Host Spartans Wednesday in League Matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis is set to host USC Upstate on Wednesday, March 27 at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown for a Big South Conference matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs are 2-0 in Big South Conference play and 15-2 overall on the 2019 season.
BULLDOG BITES
Last Time Out
UNC Asheville played its first two conference matches of the season on March 23-24 versus Radford and Winthrop. The Bulldogs defeated Radford, 6-1, at home on Saturday before downing Winthrop, 4-3, on Sunday in a road matchup.
In doubles, the duos of Henry Patten and Olly Cull along with Oli Nolan and Sirawit Daosaengsawang both went 2-0 to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs in each match.
Henry Patten, Charlie Morkel and Leo Bierbaum are all 2-0 in singles in the Big South Conference after their dominating performances last weekend to propel UNC Asheville to a 2-0 start in conference play.
Breaking Down the Bulldogs
Two-time Big South Player of the Year Henry Patten leads the Bulldogs with eleven wins in singles on the season. Patten has played all of his matches at No. 1.
Leo Bierbaum and Charlie Morkel are right on his heels with ten wins each in singles on the season. Bierbaum has played mainly No. 4-6, while Morkel has played in the 1-4 singles flights this season thus far. Oli Nolan and Sirawit Daosaengsawang have both put together impressive springs as well. Nolan has nine wins on the season and has played all his matches at No. 1-2, while Daosaengsawang has eight wins and has played at No. 1-4.
In doubles, Oli Nolan and Henry Patten are an impressive 7-0 in the spring season. Despite still being undefeated on the year the pairing is now ranked second nationally after spending much of the spring ranked No. 1.
Nolan and Patten went undefeated playing together during the fall and won three titles including the national championship victory at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
Scouting USC Upstate
The Spartans are 1-11 on the season and 0-3 in the Big South Conference. USC Upstate opened the season with a 7-0 win over Belmont Abbey and have since lost 11 straight matches. The Spartans have dropped conference matches to Winthrop 6-1, Presbyterian 5-2 and Campbell 6-1.

UNC Asheville will take a couple days off before hitting the road for two more matches on March 30-31.
The Bulldogs will face off with Campbell on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m., before traveling to Farmville, Va. for a matchup with Longwood on Sunday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs will return home a few days later to face Presbyterian on Wednesday, April 3 at 3 p.m.
