ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The 2019 Bulldog Challenge is just in its sixth day, but already over $70,000 has been donated.

The UNC Asheville baseball program currently leads in terms of donors (35) and dollars donated (over $45,000).

The team with the most unique donors on March 31 will be crowned the 2019 Bulldog Challenge Champions

The 2019 Bulldog Challenge is a little different than the past in that it is just two weeks this year (March 17-31).

"Thank you to all that have donated so far to the 2019 Bulldog Challenge," Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics Betsy Blose said. "We are a little more than a week out. You still have time to support your favorite Bulldog Team. Remember, the winner of the Challenge is the team with the most unique donors. Every dollar helps. Give what you can. You are the difference. Help us reach our goal of $175,000 by March 31."

Started in 2014 by Blose, the Bulldog Challenge at its beginning was created to help increase the student-athlete alumni giving participation rate at UNC Asheville.

The campaign was originally a month-long event designed to align with March Madness with all of the funds raised going towards the UNC Asheville team enhancement accounts.

During the first year in 2014 there were a total of 67 donors with $5,187 raised altogether. The next year there were 244 donors with $21,036 raised.

Over the years the annual Bulldog Challenge continued to become a staple for the university with the 2017 Bulldog Challenge going 265 percent past its original goal of $40,000 with $107,015 raised.

Last year, UNC Asheville set an ambitious goal of $125,000. Once again, Bulldog fans and friends were more than up to the challenge with a record $131,963 raised. An impressive nearly $35,000 of the over $130,000 donated was raised by current UNC Asheville student-athletes.

This year's goal during the two-week Bulldog Challenge is even more ambitious with efforts in place to hopefully raise $175,000.

In addition, the second annual Bulldog Challenge LIVE event is scheduled for Thursday, March 28. Over $17,000 of the over $130,000 raised last year came from the inaugural Bulldog Challenge Facebook LIVE event.

Every dollar – and every donor – helps strengthen the UNC Asheville student-athlete experience.

Give back today and help your team create the next generation of champions – on the court and in the classroom.
