Bulldogs Close Out Non-Conference Portion of Season by Facing Boston University in Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Winners of two straight, UNC Asheville men's tennis will close out its four matches in five days spring break trip to Florida by taking on Boston University in a neutral site matchup at 2 p.m. on Friday.

UNC Asheville's match with Boston University will be the final non-conference match of the 2019 spring campaign for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs most recently picked up impressive road wins over Stetson (4-2) on Tuesday, March 12, in DeLand, Fla. and at FGCU (4-0) on Wednesday, March 13, in Fort Myers, Fla.

UNC Asheville enters the matchup with Boston owning a 12-2 overall record on the 2019 spring season. The Bulldogs are 6-0 at home, 5-2 in true road matches and 1-0 in neutral site matches with the Bulldogs besting George Mason in Greenville, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 2, before dispatching of ECU, 4-3, at their home facility on Sunday, Feb. 3.

BULLDOG BITES

Breaking Down the Bulldogs
Sirawit Daosaengsawang, Leo Bierbaum and Henry Patten lead the Bulldogs with eight wins in singles each on the season. Bierbaum has played mainly No. 4-6, while Daosaengsawang has played in the 1-4 singles flights this season thus far. Patten has played all of his matches at No. 1 singles.

In doubles, the national No. 1 pairing of Oli Nolan and Henry Patten are an impressive 7-0 in the spring season.

The Bulldog duo has now been ranked No. 1 in the country in the last three national rankings. The No. 1 ranking is the highest doubles ranking in Big South tennis history and it is the highest a Bulldog tennis duo has ever been ranked.

The pairing moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 nationally in the Feb. 6 poll. Coming out of the fall, Nolan and Patten were ranked second in the poll that was released on Nov. 14, 2018.

Nolan and Patten went undefeated playing together during the fall and won three titles including the national championship victory at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. 

Scouting Boston University
Boston University is 4-10 on the season. They are 1-1 in neutral site matches. The Bulldogs and Terriers have had one common opponent this season in ECU. Boston University was shut out 7-0 by the Pirates, while the Bulldogs picked up a 4-3 win over ECU.  

The neutral site matchup between the Bulldogs and the Terriers marks the third of three matches in the Sunshine State for Boston University. The Terriers started their trip into Florida by falling to No. 36 Miami, 5-0, in Coral Gables, Fla. on Tuesday, March 12. The Terriers are taking on UAB in Boca Raton on Thursday, March 14, before battling the Bulldogs on Friday, March 15.
