Patten Selected Big South Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's Henry Patten has been selected as the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.

Patten was named Player of the Week three times last season. He garnered weekly laurels on Feb. 27, 2018, March 28, 2018 and April 4, 2018. Patten also garnered Player of the Week honors from the league office twice in 2017 (Feb. 1 and March 8).

In total, Patten has collected plaudits from the conference office eight times in his career. He was also named Freshman of the Week twice (March 30 and April 6) in the 2016 season.  

The reigning two-time Big South Player of the Year played in his first two matches of the 2019 season in singles and doubles this past weekend.

In singles, Patten picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win over George Mason's Edward Ayers at No. 1 singles on Saturday, Feb. 2. On Sunday, Feb. 3, Patten downed East Carolina's Diogo Marques 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

In doubles, the nationally top-ranked pairing of Patten and Oli Nolan earned a 6-2 win over Ayers and Jakob Nielsen of George Mason at No. 1 doubles. Patten and Nolan garnered a 6-4 win over Ronny Georgi and Marques of East Carolina at No. 1 doubles. 

Patten and undefeated UNC Asheville men's tennis (4-0) next face Tusculum at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, before hosting Chattanooga on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at 3 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
