Bulldogs Prepared for Final Pair of Regular Season Road Matches

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – UNC Asheville's volleyball team will wrap up its final regular season road swing with a pair of matches against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop this weekend.

The Bulldogs (11-10, 5-5 Big South) will take on Gardner-Webb in a 6 p.m., Friday, matchup at Paul Porter Arena. They'll then return to action in a 2 p.m., Saturday, contest against Winthrop at Winthrop Arena.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend after a pair of victories at home the previous weekend, sweeping Charleston Southern for their eighth sweep of the season, followed by their first five-set victory of the season in a comeback against Presbyterian.

Senior right side Julia Borges had a monstrous weekend, earning the first Big South Conference Player of the Week nod for UNC Asheville this season. She set career highs in kills (23) and digs (19) in the comeback against Presbyterian, and hit a career-best .500 hitting percentage on 12 kills against CSU.

Borges leads the team in kills (206), solo blocks (14), block assists (39), total blocks (53) and points (252.5). She is second on the team in digs with 207.

Ansley Rooks has also had a strong senior campaign, as she leads the team with 22 service aces, is second in kills (184) and points (211) and is third in digs (204). Sophomore Molly Hackett has recorded 172 kills, while senior Cecilia Stack has compiled 110 kills.

Senior Kailey Hackett is coming off a career-match against Presbyterian as well, recording 44 assists last Saturday, and she leads the team with 438 assists. Sophomore Grace Volk has picked up 214 assists on the season.

Defensively, junior Kasey West leads the way with 256 digs, and junior Cecilia Stack is second on the team with 43 total blocks.

Gardner-Webb is 3-19 on the season and 1-10 in Big South play. The Runnin' Bulldogs picked up their first conference victory of the season, last Saturday, with a 3-1 victory against Hampton.

Friday's matchup against Gardner-Webb will be streamed on ESPN+ HERE, and live stats will also be available HERE.

Winthrop continues to remain atop the conference standings, entering the weekend at 19-4 overall and 11-0 in league play. The Eagles are coming off a 3-1 victory against Hampton, followed by a dramatic 3-2 victory at Campbell last weekend.
