Bulldogs Set for Quarterfinal Matchup with Presbyterian at Big South Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the fifth consecutive season, UNC Asheville's volleyball team will compete in the Big South Conference Championship, as it made it to the tournament as the No. 5 seed.
The Bulldogs (13-12, 7-7 Big South) will open the tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against fourth-seeded Presbyterian set for 4:30 p.m., Friday, November 22, at Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, S.C. It will be the first meeting between UNC Asheville and Presbyterian in the Big South Championship.
Asheville owns an 18-10 all-time advantage against Presbyterian, winning four in-a-row and seven of the past eight in the series. The Bulldogs won the lone matchup this season, 3-2, in a thrilling comeback on their home floor of the Justice Center.
After taking the first set in the match against the Blue Hose, November 2, the Bulldogs dropped the next two and were trailing in the fourth set. A Herculean 10-kill effort in the fourth by senior Julia Borges helped the Bulldogs level the match, and they would win a back-and-forth fifth set, 16-14.
Borges has been the catalyst all season, leading the team in kills (260), solo blocks (18), total blocks (64) and points (316). Her 3.02 kills per set rank fourth in the Big South and her 260 total kills rank sixth. She earned distinction as a First-Team All-Big South selection this year after earning Second-Team recognition a season ago.
Senior Ansley Rooks has also had a stellar final season, being named All-Big South Honorable Mention. She leads the team with a career-best 32 services aces. She ranks second on the team with 228 digs – seven off her career-best – second with a career-high 257 digs and second with a career-best 266.5 points. In her last appearance at the Big South Championship in 2018, Rooks earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Molly Hackett has proven a valuable third scorer, recording 198 kills and 218.5 points on the season. Junior Cecilia Stack has added 129 kills on a .278 hitting percentage that ranks sixth in the Big South. She's second on the team in solo blocks (12) and total blocks (60).
Senior Kailey Hackett has been the engine that makes the offense run, as she is fourth in the Big South in assists per set (6.52) and total assists, with a career-best 561. She's also added 56 kills and 123 digs.
Junior Kasey West leads the team with 325 digs, and her 3.82 digs per set rank fifth in the conference.
