Bulldogs Have Strong Showing Against Chattanooga at Steve Baras Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team had another strong performance at the Steve Baras Invitational, securing five singles and doubles victories against the host Chattanooga Moccasins, Saturday.
Four Bulldogs picked up straight-set singles victories, led by a strong performance from Quinn Fender, who took down Quinten Nevenhoven, 6-0, 6-4. Leo Bierbaum defeated Jeffrey Dewald, 6-3, 6-3.
Edward Colclough fought for a close first-set win, taking down Kasei Kuroki 7-6 (4) in the first and followed that up with a 6-3 victory in the second. Finlay Ray McFadyen won his match against Bo Nash, 6-3, 6-4.
Charlie Morkel found himself in tight match in the No. 1 spot, falling in a 1-0 hole after losing the first set, 6-3. He responded with a 6-4 victory in the second set, and then earned the victory with a 10-8 margin in the decisive third set.
Thursfield and Bierbaum picked up a pair of victories as doubles partners, as did Morkel and McFadyen. Colclough and Fender went 1-1 on the day, taking down Nedenhoven and Nash in a nail-biter, 7-6 (4).
The Bulldogs will play their final day of competition in the fall when they take on familiar foe, USC Upstate, Sunday.
