Mathes Mennell Resigns as UNC Asheville Head Men’s Soccer Coach

ASHEVILLE – Mathes Mennell has announced his resignation as UNC Asheville's head men's soccer coach.
"We appreciate Mathes' contributions to improving our soccer program the past five years," Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "Under his leadership our soccer student-athletes have experienced much improvement in the classroom and have been outstanding campus and community citizens. We wish him much success in his future endeavors."
Mennell served as head coach for UNC Asheville from 2015-19.
"This is a very bittersweet decision for me. I have cherished my time at UNC Asheville and have been privileged to work with student-athletes who have taught me far more that I have taught them," Mennell said. "UNC Asheville is a special place, inhabited by special people. This is a great place to work and I will dearly miss the fantastic relationships I have developed here at the university. However, I leave with a full heart and am very excited to see the successes that are surely coming for this group of student-athletes."
A national search for the next head coach of UNC Asheville men's soccer will begin immediately.
