Bulldogs Sweep Singles Matches in Day One of Steve Baras Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNC Asheville's tennis team swept its singles matchups against Austin Peay, Friday, in the first day of competition at the Steve Baras Invitational, Friday, hosted by Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs opened competition in their final event of the fall with four singles victories, all in straight sets. Charlie Morkel took down Anton Damberg 6-3, 6-4, while Edward Colclough bested Thiago Nogueira, 6-2, 6-1.
Harry Thursfield and Quinn Fender had tight first sets, but both emerged victorious in the first set, 7-5. Then both took down their opponents in the second sets, 6-2. Thursfield defeated Julius Gold, while Fender upended Jacob Lorino.
In doubles play, Thursfield and Leo Bierbaum took down Gold and Damberg, 6-4, while Lorino and Nogueira defeated Morkel and Colclough, 6-2.
The Bulldogs will return to action, Saturday, against the host Moccasins.
